The ‘Big Leagues’ are the four largest and most powerful sporting leagues in North American. These are:
- Major League Baseball (National League and American League)
- National Hockey League
- National Football League
- National Basketball Association
The Big Leagues are defined by possessing the five criteria:
- They attract the best players worldwide
- Are home to that Big Sports richest teams
- Are exclusive in who can join the league
- Are ambitious in their scope and marketing
- Have survived the challenges of Rival Leagues
